CUTTACK: The case on rehabilitation of the evicted families of Jay Mangala Basti at Ranihat continues to linger as the Orissa High Court today posted further hearing to August 4. The division bench comprising Chief Justice V Gopala Gowda and Justice I Mohanty has, though, almost completed hearing in the eviction case.
The bench today directed the counsel for the Central Government to file an affidavit on the budget and provisions in the schemes for development of slum-dwellers by August 4. During the hearing, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Department, Orissa, and Director of Housing and Poverty Alleviation under the Union Urban Development Ministry were present.
On behalf of the State two affidavits were filed, one by the Collector, Cuttack, and the other by the Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department. Appearing for the State, Advocate General Ashok Mohanty stated that the administration had identified 257 slums of which 82 were on Government land.
The Court while reserving the verdict has directed for continuation of interim management like provision of food, water and shelter to the evicted families. |
